Cherissa Griffis-Smallwood joined IHRA's Nitro Jam series in mid 2010. Taking a huge leap of faith from the comfort of NHRA drag racing, this was an opportunity she couldn't pass up. To be a female competing in a sport that is considered to be a "man's sport" gives her the extra incentive to perform at her highest level of talent. She believes her job as a drag racer is to put fans in the stands, other than the obvious, which is her love of racing, fan support is of the essence. Since joining Nitro Jam, Cherissa has gained the approval and respect of all of her competitors and fans. Cherissa says "being in front of thousands of fans chanting "Girl Power" sure gives you the feeling of accomplishment."
